I am a management accountant by profession and have worked for ANZ Bank and Standard Chartered Bank, in Sri Lanka over a decade, prior to the present role with a major Bank in Australia. Diverse work experience in Banking Operations, compliance, Operational Risk management, Retail and Corporate banking have enabled me to obtain a wide range of skills that closely accord with the requirements of Compliance and operational Risk management.

Main responsibilities of my role included timely and accurate regulatory reporting to Central Bank, to other external parties. I was responsible in rolling out compliance monitoring tools, coached and trained staff involved in these processes. I also evaluated, new products and services being introduced, to ensure that the proposal is compliant with regulatory requirements. If necessary suggested alternative proposals to avoid any breaches.
Monitored suspected transactions and carried out further investigations if necessary. Actively involved in embedding internal systems.
Periodically carried out risk assessments for the operations areas,
Liaised with the regulators, external auditors and the solicitors on various operational and compliance issues. Reengineer business model and the work processes to be competitive on the cost base and to improve the efficiency, without compromising the operational risks and compliance requirements.
Ensured that the high level of service quality, well above the service level agreements was achieved, by laying down appropriate policy framework, re-engineering work flows, continuous improvement of processes and maintaining rigorous quality assurance Coached and developed a pool of talented and competent staff in order to ensure smooth succession planning.
