Actuarial Analyst (Reserving), listed 1 July, 2009 (ref RMR017NA)

Our client a leading International General Reinsurer is looking to appoint an experienced (3 years plus) actuarial analyst to join their established team in their Singapore office.

Key objectives of role

  • To assist in estimating accurate and adequate insurance liabilities due on the company, including outstanding claims and premium liabilities.
  • To support overall capital management of the company

 Responsibilities

  • Technically assess the amount of reserves to be held for insurance liabilities of the company, encompassing outstanding claims and premium liabilities across all classes of business.
  • Estimates should be prepared as per IFRS requirements and in accordance with statutory requirements where necessary.
  • To maintain a robust framework for assessment of emerging experience and corresponding insurance liabilities on a monthly basis.
  • To maintain ongoing working relationship with internal departments, including Finance, Underwriting and Claims, in understanding soft factors affecting assessment of liabilities.
  • To assist in communicating technical underwriting results to internal stakeholders including Finance, Underwriting and Claims.
  • To work with Finance in decomposing movements in reserves and emerging experience for management reporting, as well as in reconciling actuarial results against financial results.
  • To assist with ensuring data accuracy and completeness, and identifying improvements in data capture.
  • To assist in developing leading indicators to forecast emerging experience and reserve changes, as well as the identification of threats and opportunities.

Indirect Involvement (including, but not limited to)

  • Internal capital model and rating agency models.

Language Skills

  • Excellent command of English (both written and spoken).
  • Asian language skills would be an asset.

Computer Skills

  • Excellent command of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office in general.
  • Simulation softwares, eg. @RISK, would be an asset.

Required Qualifications

  • In pursuit of actuarial qualification, e.g. Fellow of Institute of Actuaries (UK), Fellow of Institute of Actuaries of Australia, Fellow of Casualty Actuaries (USA).
  • Holder of Associate qualification would be an asset.

Professional Development

  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of Asian non-life insurance and reinsurance business.
  • Develop professionally and technically through on-the-job-training, as required. Participate in appropriate seminars and training sessions from a technical and behavioural perspective.

Presently we have an exciting opportunity for a specialist Contract Works Underwriter to join an established team with a leading international Insurer in their Singapore regional office.

As Underwriter you will be responsible for the profitable underwriting of Contract Works and Legal Liability risks in accord with your underwriting authority and the company’s underwriting philosophies and guidelines and for the review, rating and underwriting of target new and renewal business as well as provide input to the relevant Managers in relation to market plans.

Your expertise of underwriting concepts, procedures and techniques in coverage issues, product lines, marketing and product competition within the marketplace will be essential to establishing and maintaining relationships to facilitate the marketing of products to the broking community.

Key Attributes sought:

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years Contract Works Underwriting experience in Asian markets (preferably with a construction,energy or engineering industry focus)
  • ANZIIF - Associate or equivalent industry qualification (preferable)
  • Qualifications within Construction or Engineering disciplines would be highly regarded
  • Strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to liaise and negotiate with clients at all levels.
