Physical Commodity Asset Traders – listed 16 July, 2009 (ref RMR020NA)

We presently have a need for a number of experienced traders for opportunities in Singapore and Hong Kong with clients looking to further expand and/or set up new desks in Coke & Coal, Crude Oil , Distillates, Gasoline, Natural Gas , Fuel Oil , Cotton, Grains, Coffee and Metals.

Responsibilities for these opportunities will include: physical & financial trading across all major Asian commodity markets. Contributing to the development of trading operations in terms ongoing development of trading tools and client markets.

Including:

  • Trading, Pricing and managing commodity assets
  • Price adjustments for the Sales team
  • Risk analysis for trading books
  • Technical analysis of commodities charts
  • Work with Sales and Structuring teams to maximise profitability

Requirements:

  • 3+ years experience trading commodities with in depth understanding of risk management
  • Trading experience not only in cash but also in futures and options
  • Portable network of contacts that can be brought in and be useful from day one
  • Traders who have "moved a commodity", prop trading background will be looked upon favorably
  • Candidates with prior work experience with leading Physical Commodity Trading houses will be very much favoured and will those with Mandarin language skills.

Our client is a major European bank, with a large global network of branches. In Asia the bank has a wide range of commercial products. Within Fixed Income & Capital Markets products include bonds, Credits, derivatives, structured products, primary and syndication, securitization, exotics and options as well as plain FX & MM. Commodity was established several years ago and the bank is now a recognised name in Energy and Base Metals.

Reporting Position

This position reports to the Head of Commodities based in Hong Kong.

Job Focus

The successful candidate will sit in Financial Markets in Hong Kong. Candidate will be part of a Global Team, Traders currently is handled out of London and Hong Kong as well as other major global centres. The candidate is expected to have significant experience in determining client needs and then being able to sell base metals and energy derivative products to suit client’s needs.
The bank is expanding its product offerings rapidly and it is expected that the successful candidate will possess the flexibility and sophistication to rise to this challenge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sales of Commodities – Energy and base metals in particular
  • Meeting face to face or talking with clients to discern their needs.
  • Client focus are corporates and financial institutions in Hong Kong and throughout Asia

Candidate Profile

The company is seeking a person who is:

  • Strong, successful commodity background – a specialist is needed
  • Key niches of desired client base could be refineries, shipping, aviation clients
  • Must be highly motivated, hands on, able to work independently
  • Around 5-10 years of experience
  • Strong technical education ideal
  • Deep understanding of the products and markets essential.
